3) One Half Guard Sweep
Will update on this next week.

On wrestling

There won't be any wrestling post for awhile only because its currently summer and wrestling season starts late August will be posting more on Wrestling then though.

BJJ 6/29/09

Another 2 a day today. Morning class was a takedown class didn't really learn any applicable takedowns for my skill level just learnt I need to follow through on my Double Legs and need help on my conditioning. Im sure When wrestling starts both of these will be helped.
Tonight: I had my 2nd stripe test and I passed! Rolled with a guy the same level as me finally and we kinda stalemate. I let him pass my guard to help work on reestablishing guard back. He says my half guard is good. I never got mounted, mounted him twice. and did an armdrag to take his back once. Worked on the BOW AND ARROW CHOKE and need to keep working it. I need to let people pass my guard more often to work on my topside escapes. I plan on using my next month to get a lot of good rolling in since I know most of the curicuulum. Hopefully some of the blues will help roll with me b/c thats when I feel I learn the most. I need to turtle more often to work on Back mount escapes.
Things I need to work on:
1) topside escape
2) Backmount escapes
3) Guard Passing

BJJ 6/26/09

Today was my first 2-a-day the first class Jake went to and we rolled a bit, he actually got a tap. 2nd class I rolled with Omar (blue) he told me I was doing good but I need to break grips more often. I rolled with Cody for a bit and kind of tooled him around a bit I got all of my sweeps in and armbars from different positions. Than I rolled with another guy my experience level only he weighed 195 . he weighed a little too much for me though he didn't own me but he got me in a good guillotine. Worked on AMERICANA FROM SIDE CONTROL and ARMBAR FROM KNEE ON STOMACH AND SIDE CONTROL. Good day.
Things to work on:
1) Break grips

BJJ- things to remember

"Your arms and legs are just hooks and controls. Its really your hips that do all the work."

My goal is to:
Use less power and speed and strength to make techniques more successful, actually try no power speed or strength.

"Try new thing, have fun. Remember the more you tap the more you learn."

BJJ 6/24/09

Rolled with this weird guy today. I swept him but didn't stay in mount very long. He never passed my guard. Drilled alot of things from Spider Guard including a cool foot sweep I wanna keep working on. I need to gain more ambidexterity in everything I know, and leave my comfort zone behind.
Things that need work:
1) Everything on BOTH sides
2)Scissor Sweep
3) Flower Sweep
4) Maintaing (when on top) and getting out of Side Control

BJJ 5/29/09

Last night was stripe testing and I got it! Doesn't mean much but its cool. But anyways I was taught to do a kneebar when someone stands up in your guard.
Things I need to work on:
1) Hip Bump Sweep
2)Back Mount Escape
3)And a BJJ headlock escape

Wrestling 5/21/09

Today was a pretty decent day. I feel as if my technique is starting to improve little by little. It was weird coach hadn't showed the whole time so it was kinda like open mat. Although I did work alot today, with Jose who helped me out on my shots alot. When we did live wrestling we did everything just a little bit slower than actual speed. Which I think helps me out on my technique alot. I learnt: A REVERSAL TO A HEADLOCK
need to work on
1) Double, double and more doubles.
2)Singles

My First Post

My name is Gabe McCreary, I train in wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I made this blog to help me keep track of my goals and progress while grappling. I have about 2 months of experience Jiu jitsu and about 4 months of Greco-Roman wrestling under my belt. I started a hand written Journal a while back so I will start my posts off from there and then hopefully post every class there after.
BJJ- 5/20/09
Today I finally had a genuinely good day I think I may be getting into the swing of things, not skill wise but just effortwise. Today I was tossed around alot but tried and learnt new things. Learned things I think are applicable to my skill level today. I need to drill them untill they are up to rolling speed what I learnt was, THE SPIDER GUARD SWEEP and THE FIRST GUARD BREAK AND PASS. Friday is my first stripe test and Im ready for it, just need to drill attacks from guard right now.
